I gave birth to three daughters. They all ended up on drugs. The youngest killed her self with a drug overdose at the age of 45. She had two sons; both drug addicted. She also managed to acquire a registered nurse’s degree and had the reputation for being the best ICU nurse in our local hospital.
Six of our seven grandchildren are drug users. Every problem in our family is founded in drugs. Every single one. We don’t know how to stop it or to help our family. Two grandsons are in prison; a third is probably going back to prison. Our two remaining daughters are so abusive to me that I will not allow them back into my life.
I would rather have no family than to have family who are mean and hateful and tell lies about me. I am sad that our lives have come to this. We devoted our lives to raising our children. And then our grandchildren; and now our great grandchildren. We have six great, great grandchildren whom we do not see because their parents are so involved in drugs and are in and out of jail frequently.
I have heard of a new drug treatment in Italy that I read about in National Geographic. It consists of sending electromagnetic impulses to the frontal cortex of the brain, which is where addiction happens. It is said to stop the cravings immediately. We can’t afford to send our loved ones to Italy.
I am 75 and my husband is 79. He still works full time, but he will have to retire someday. We will keep trying to help the ones that we feel we can help. We just can’t turn our backs on the little ones who are in our lives and who need our help.
We have 14 great grandchildren and some of them are in our lives.
I have needed to express these thoughts for a long time. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to do it.
